Seonaid & Behrad's Wedding

Here are some pictures from another one of my glowing brides, Seonaid.  I met Seonaid last September at her friend Erica's wedding.  I was doing the makeup and Seonaid was one of the 7 bridesmaids that I had the pleasure of doing makeup on. I was thrilled when she contacted me to ask if I was available for her wedding this year!

Seonaid has gorgeous green eyes and these beautiful full lips, it was hard to choose which one to feature.  I decided to do a balance of the two, neutral eyes with lashes to enhance, and an eyecatching peachy pink MAC lipstick called Fanfare with a matching light-peach gloss called Love Nectar to make her lips look even more full.  I added some some warmth to her cheeks with a mineral blush called Warm Soul to give her skin that extra glow, doesn't she look gorgeous!

Seonaid and Behrad got married on a beautiful sunny day this past September at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in Jericho. Congratulations!

Makeup Party!

I recently held a makeup party for birthday girl Aria, the cutest and sweetest 13 year old I've ever met and her closest friends. We had so much fun doing makeup while eating cupcakes and chocolates,  and washing it all down with sparkling pink lemondade.  The girls even had a little photoshoot afterwards with the talented photographer Erica Chan

Here's some pictures from their shoot.

Aliya & Chris' Engagement Shoot

I know Aliya because she use to be one of my clients at MAC, she would come in occasionally to see me to have her makeup done for special events and parties.  A few years passed that I didn't see Aliya and recently one evening we ran into eachother when we were both at the same restaurant for dinner.  She told me that she was getting married this December and having her engagement photos taken in the next couple of weeks, she was trying to find me because she liked the way that I did her makeup the best. What a compliment! I was so flattered : )

Doing Aliya's makeup for her engagement shoot was a breeze because she's naturally beautiful.  I kept her makeup clean and polished, defining and enhancing her natural features. I used Arena eyeshadow on her eyelids, a colour that I overlooked for awhile but just recently rediscovered and love!  It's a warm peachy beige with a slight sheen - perfect for those who still want a bit of shimmer without the frosty look.   Texture eyeshadow in the crease to create some depth and bring Arena out.  I warmed up her cheeks with one of my favorite mineral blushes - Warm Soul to give her that nice sunkissed glow and finished her look with a peachy-pink lipstick called Fanfare.

Alicia & Nick's Wedding

It's always so exciting when a bride that I've done makeup for finally sends me pictures from her wedding day.  I'm no professional photographer so I prefer to post pictures once they've received them from their photographers which is why it takes me sometime before I finally post the weddings up.  I was very excited when Alicia sent me the pictures from her wedding, I love seeing the finished look of the makeup with the hair and the dress and veil : )

I've been so blessed to have worked on so many beautiful and easy-going brides, and Alicia was just that : )  I also met her sister and mom before the wedding who I also did makeup for and they were just as sweet as she was, such a lovely family.

Congratulations Alicia & Nick!

Hiroko & Mike's Wedding

Here are some pictures from Hiroko and Mike's Wedding at the Hart House.  Hiroko wanted her wedding makeup to be more cool in tone than the warm neutral's that we did for her engagement shoot, so I created an eye makeup for her using some mauves and silvery-cool taupe shadows, smudging some black liner along her lashline to create a thick yet soft line to shape and define her eyes. Some key products that I used were #43 MAC lashes because we didn't want the lashes to be too long and obvious.  The mix of brown & black hairs in the lashes gave it that full but natural look, perfect for brides that have shorter lashes to begin with.  Gentle Mineral Blush was used to create a cooler, rosier cheek.  Staunchly Stylish Prolong Wear Lip Pencil, Supreme Style Sheen Supreme lipstick, and Love Nectar Lustreglass gave the lips an understated glossy look.

Hiroko's bridesmaids dresses were a beautiful jewel-toned purple so I chose a rich purple eyeshadow that complimented the dresses and accentuated their eyes.

A few days after the wedding Hiroko's sister Keiko who was also her MOH sent me an email saying

"Hi Ariana I just wanted to thank you for all of your help for my sister's wedding!  Everyone looked great!  On a personal note, having a professional artist do my makeup was a new experience for me.  My makeup stayed on the entire night even after one "ugly cry" by yours truly as I was giving my speech lol!  I felt amazing and the pictures turned out fabulous! Thanks again!"

Congratulations Hiroko & Mike!

Tiffany & Sam's Engagement Shoot

I met Tiffany last year when she was the MOH for her bestfriend Christine & Koby's Wedding and I was thrilled when she asked me to do the makeup for her wedding later this year : )  Tiffany is gorgeous, I couldn't wait to show off these pictures from her engagement shoot of her and her soon to be hubby Sam which was also featured on Tutu & Fru.  I used MAC Prolong wear eyeshadows in Make Your Mark and Legendary Black because they go on like butter and last for up to 8hrs. The beautiful lush and very full #48 lashes.  Prolong wear concealer mixed with a drop of our Careblend Essential Oil, to give her that flawless skin.  And we did a mixture of her own pink lipstick with a nude Cremesheen Glass called Boybait.  Can't wait for the wedding in September at the Rosewood Georgia Hotel!

Hiroko and Mike's Engagement Shoot

Here are some picture's from Hiroko and Mike's engagement shoot.  Hiroko wanted to do a soft smokey eye for the pictures to emphasize her eyes but still look natural.  I created a look using some soft bronze eyeshadows and and a wispy pair of # 4 lashes, Supreme Style Sheen supreme lipstick and a little bit of Love Nectar Lustreglass on top.  I just did Hiroko's makeup for her wedding yesterday and I can't wait to get the pictures to post them!

5 Reasons to hire a Professional Makeup Artist for your wedding

For the Brides who are considering doing their own makeup for their biggest most important day or having a "friend that's good at makeup" do it for you, please consider these 5 reasons why you should hire a Professional Makeup Artist.

1.  The Tools and Products

My kit contains the most desired MAC makeup brushes, a wide spectrum of professional foundation colours, eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes perfect for photography.  If you don't wear a lot of makeup to begin with, why spend all your money on product that you'll most likely never use again? Even if you do wear makeup on a daily basis, why wear the same look for your wedding that you would everyday?  This is your one day to be the most beautiful that you can be, and I can bring your vision of the perfect you to fruition with my professional makeup kit and tools.

2.  Prepping & Priming

Do you know the difference between prepping and priming the skin to ensure your makeup lasts all day as opposed to just putting makeup on for day to day?  I use foolproof, reliable skincare that enhances your foundation when applied to the face and primers that help to smooth out the skin and stabilize the makeup when it's applied on top to ensure that it stays on all day into the night.  The same is done for eyes, lips, and cheeks.

3. Contouring & Highlighting

Makeup's not just about putting on foundation and adding eyeshadows and lipstick, it's also about creating dimension to the face by sculpting and highlighting in the right areas. It's something most people don't think about when doing makeup.  There's the difference between a makeup application that looks great and  then there's breathtaking!

4.  False Lashes

I think every Bride should wear false lashes for their wedding day.  It makes the eyes more defined and looks beautiful in pictures.  Trying to apply false lashes on yourself when getting ready on your big day is a reason in itself to hire a Professional Makeup Artist.  The slightest misplacement after your perfectly applied makeup is not something you want to mess with, not to mention that you'll need to ensure that it's properly secured with the right amount of glue to prevent the disaster of a lash falling off during your ceremony.  Need I say more?

5.  The Investment

Last but not least, after months of picking out the perfect wedding gown, shoes, accessories etc. your most important investment is how beautiful your face is going to look.  This is going to be one of the most photographed days of your life, let a professional make you look your best.  At the end of  the day your guests aren't going to be talking about how great the food was or how touching the speeches were, they're going to be talking how stunning the Bride looked : )

Hiroko & Mike's Sneak Peek

I realize it's been over a month since my last post, but between working full-time at MAC, freelancing and trying to squeeze in time for friend's and family I've had virtually no time to keep my blog updated.....Until now, I've got 3 glorious days off!  So here it is, a sneak peek at Hiroko and Mike's engagement session, they'll be tying the knot this June and I can't wait to do Hiroko's makeup again for her big day : )

Product that i'm loving right now...

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Smoother

I'm in love with the newest addition to our  Prep + Prime line.  For ultra-smooth, velvety looking skin this is a must have for everybody.  It fills in fine lines and minimizes the look of pores, while creating a smooth base for your foundation to help it glide onto your skin like silk.  It works great just on it's own for a more matte look that makes your skin look soft and diffused.  Try buffing it into your T-zone and around the eyes with the #286 Duo Fibre Blending Brush.  It's also super convenient to travel with since it comes in a handy compact with a mirror.  I can't say enough about how much I love this product so you'll just have to try it and see for yourself!
